Detailed Selection Process (Step-by-Step)

The recruitment process consists of five systematic stages to evaluate the performance, technical proficiency, and health parameters of candidates:

  1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1): This is a screening test to filter candidates for the next stage. Marks scored in CBT-1 will not be counted toward the final merit list.
  2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Candidates are shortlisted based on their CBT-1 performance at a rate of 15 times the notified vacancies per RRB. This stage contains two parts (Part A and Part B). Final merit lists are constructed primarily using Part A scores.
  3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Shortlisted candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies in each category are called for the Aptitude Test (commonly called the ‘Psycho Test’). This test has no negative marking and is conducted only in Hindi and English.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Combined merit is drawn from CBT-2 Part A (50% weightage) and CBAT scores (50% weightage) to call candidates for document checking.
  5. Medical Examination (ME): Shortlisted candidates must pass the mandatory physical and visual standards matching the A-1 medical classification at a designated Railway Hospital.
